JESSICA LUNA (eatslugs)

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 13, 2024 | 4 - 6 PM

Gacha Gallery proudly presents G I R L C O D E, a solo exhibition by Jessica Luna (eatslugs). We invite all art lovers to join us at the opening reception to meet the artist and experience this enchanting new body of work.

G I R L C O D E skillfully bridges the realms of digital and traditional art with the evocative works of Italian illustrator Jessica Luna, known professionally as eatslugs. These multifaceted mixed media paintings exude a vibrant palette of color and emotion, drawing comparisons to the legendary Satoshi Kon in their depiction of youthful optimism. The artist’s signature palette of pinks, reds, purples, and warm tones create an immediate sense of familiarity, while her surreal backdrops present fantastical yet comforting realms.

Luna delves into the empowering and nurturing essence of female relationships, celebrating the bonds that uplift and support women through the joys and challenges of life. Through her captivating artwork she shines a light on the beauty of solidarity, empathy, and shared growth among women, offering a refreshing perspective on the positive dynamics that define these connections.

Each piece begins as a digital sketch, which is then meticulously transferred onto Shikishi board—a traditional Japanese medium known for its washi paper mounted on hardboard with elegant gold foil edging. The artwork comes to life through a harmonious blend of copic markers, colored pencils, and acrylic paints, demanding precise pre-planning due to the Shikishi board's delicate nature that resists extensive layering or corrections.

Jessica Luna (eatslugs) has left an indelible mark on the online art scene. She is the resident artist of Sukeban.NYC and her diverse portfolio includes collaboration with the Japanese boy band U-KISS, significant contributions to exhibitions like "Japan's Anime sweeping the world" at the Nippon Club Gallery in NYC, and participation in acclaimed group shows such as "Cup O' Comfort" by &&Gallery (aka Capsule Corner) in LA. Luna's presence at major conventions like Anime Expo (LA) and AnimeNYC (NYC) further cements her status as a rising star in contemporary illustration.
